Installed exe hangs

I have built 3 installed exe's with DSC that operates fieldpt hardware.  The programs have ran for a period of time on the development station and I have created
the installer within the last 4 weeks.  For the first 2 weeks these programs ran well with no problem. On the second week the .vi that has the lvlib with it has
begun to hang. At first in was about 4 days before it hung again. Now I have to restart that vi twice a day. Needless to say nobody is happy about this.
This does not make any sense!!!!
I have since installed the error handler, and no error occurs when the screen freezes; and yes I have bought the runtime license for DSC.
Any Clues???

When the program is "hung" what is the CPU consuption doing? Is the memory consuption changing over time, or remaining constant? Also what has changed lately?

Nothing has changed within the time period this has been installed. It resides and runs 24/7.

The memory usage does not change and is normal or low when the program is up and hung.

When I installed the error handler, I began to get the program looking for files...varXNode.xnode ect.

This was not evident when I was not running the error handler, but my understanding is that those files are related to the DSC runtime license

which I have installed the version the program is written in.

Hi Dwb,

So from what I understand, the computer in which you are experiencing this "hangs" is NOT the development computer? Have you tried re-installing the Run-Time engine and the license on this computer?

Also, like mentioned above, are you sure nothing changed since the time this problem started coming up?

Eli,

I have not reinstalled the DSC runtime at this point and it sounds like a good suggestion. I will try it! This program ran on the development machine

as a VI for almost 4 months with no problems. This exe currently runs on a brand new machine that doesn't have the development software

installed.  Recently the exe ran for 16 hours of production before it froze.  The odd thing is that I have two other NI exe's running at the same time

using shared variables and these don't seem to be effected.  In order to get the frozen program to work I just can close it and reopen and everything

works again for another random long period of time.  The only difference between the program this is frozen and the other 2 is that the frozen program

includes DSC items such as the variable library which handles logging and such.

This is making me believe there is something wrong with the DSC runtime or module????

Also, I have installed the debugger, and when the exe freezes there are no errors reported.

Thanks,

Doug

Dwb,

At this point, since you don't really have a lot of information about the freezing (no error report or anything like that), I think the best option is to reinstall the RTE and the license and see what happens.

You also mentioned that this program is using shared variables so perhaps there might be a problem with comunication. Are you sending large volumes of data between devices? I have seen this happen before (not with DSC) when too much data is being sent over the network too quickly the program freezes.

I think I have found out why it was freezing, I have since rebuilt the exe's by unchecking the enhanced DSC button. I have not had a problem
for about the past 3 days. I was having a problem at least twice a day.  I found this info in another thread, and I am not sure why this worked
but it did. I was told that this had to be checked in order for the DSC to work????
That does seem to fix it!!!

Can you please post the link to the thread where you found this information? I have actually never heard of this and I am curious to find out what the problem was.

Thanks
