Install Error

Hello,

I am having difficulty installing LabVIEW 8.0 run time engine  on Windows XP. THe error I am getting is 'installer could not be accessed'. I have checked and the installer is installed and enableed correctly.

Any reasons I would be having this problem?

That is a generic Windows installer issue that's not specific to LabVIEW. Try this first: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353

The installer is installing other installation packages without issue and what I'm looking to find out is if there is any specific known issue with the 8.0 runtime installing in Windows XP?

The reason for this occurring is due to the fact that no program is associated with the MSI files or that the reference to msiexec.exe is corrupt and not able to connect to the Windows Installer Service.

When the installer fails to connect to the Windows Installer Service it may display an error about not having Internet Explorer 5.0 installed. This occurs because the installer is unable to query the Windows Registry in order to determine what version of IE is installed on the machine. See http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3BC34C546C553EFD86256D750067EDB2?OpenDocument for more information.

Re-registering the msiexec.exe file should resolve the error and allow you to install your National Instruments software correctly. Refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base (ID# 315346) to learn how to re-register msiexec.exe.

There are some cases when steps mentioned above did not solve the issue. In those cases the root cause might be Microsoft Hotfix KB972397 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972397 . Check if it's installed on the computer and uninstall it to fix the problem. Verify that it's not needed for any other application.

To check if the hotfix is installed go to Start»Run and enter cmd. In the command window go to a location where you are allowed to create and write files. Enter "systeminfo > installed.txt", this will create a text file with a list of all the installed fixes. Serach this text file for the KB972397 entry.

Hopefully this information will help solve the issue.

Regards
