Have a look at the "VI setup...windows options" (right-click on the icon in the top right).
Instead of disabling the close button, you could just
not show the window title bar so there is no close button visible.
LabVIEW 5.0 is ancient history. Have you considered upgrading?
Newer versions have many more options available, for example you could use filter events to execute special conditional code if the close button is pressed (e.g. popup a window saying: "Please turn off machine ABC first, then try again").
