I start to get error 37 when using COM1 from an executable which worked ok

One of our customers reported this error 37 when using COM1 after rebooting the PC (windows 2000). It was working properly before that for a long period of time.
The executable was built with LV6.02

If you are using standard (old style) Serial Port calls, then the serp.drv was probably corrupted or lost. If you are using VISA Serial calls, the VISA runtime engine was probably corrupted or lost.

I would suggest having the customer reinstalling the executable if you have included these files. Otherwise, send them a batch file for the serp.drv or a copy of the VISA runtime engine installer.

Thanks for your answer. We were using the old style Serial Port calls. Before using a new serpdvr file, in case it was corrupted as you suggested, they tried adding the line:
serialDevices="COM1;COM2;COM3;COM4"
to the ini file of the application and it started to work again.
However I cannot understand why it used to work fine without that line and now suddenly it seems to be necessary. I might have been just chance...
