How to have and use more than one version of Labview?

I had installed Labview 8.5, but I need version 6.1 also for some projects I need to work with.

I already downloaded this old version and installed, but now that I restarted my computer, when I try to run this old version 6.1, I get this meessage: Feature "labview" (in license file ) has a problem. Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database ("WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)")

What do I need to run it and use it well? An of course to use the other newer version (8.5) too without a problem, as now.

Thanks in advance,

Margarita GY

It is possible to have multiple installations of LabVIEW. However, the best way to do this is to install them in order of version numbers. In other words, install the lowest version number first, and the highest version number last. You should also make sure that you install them into separate directories (though the default install makes them that way). At worst case you would need to install them into a virtual machine.

I did uninstall both versions that I had of Labview and now I installed first the older version, 6.1; however it still is displaying me the next message when I'm trying to open it:

Feature "labview" (in license file ) has a problem. Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database ("WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)")

What does it mean? Is there something wrong with the license? What do I need to do next?

Thanks,

Hi Margarita,

Are you using Remote Front Panels or hosting NI Volume License Manager on this computer?  If not, please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Start » Run, type in dcomcnfg, and hit Enter.
  2. Expand the Services tree.
  3. Right-click on NILM License manager, and select Stop.
  4. Right-click on NILM License manager, and select Properties. Under Startup type, select Manual.

Then reboot the computer and let me know if you are still receiving this error.

David,

Your image is not visible as it points to a private NI server.  Smiley SurprisedSmiley Wink

Sorry, I'm not sure why it did that.  The image is not necessary though.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
