How to correct installer resetting minimum restriction to windows XP SP3 or later

Solved!
Go to solution

XP mode didn't work nicely for me, I wasn't able to compile applications and I had crahes.

You can try of course, but in my experience VirtualBox is works better. I use a Virtual machine with XP as a test environment (since we also have customers who still use XP).

Yeah I know how you feel

We also have old XP machines here too but most are at least SP3 . WHen I encountered XP without XP3 it was impossible to install anything.

I am not sure there is a fix for this. Service Pak 3 was a very intensive upgrade to Windows XP and a lot of security was added.

I was simply not able to uninstall and then backgrade to XP pre SP3 myself no matter what I tried..

WHat You will definately need to do in future is try to find at least one XP SP3 machine that you can install your labVIEW on so that you can build 32 bit

installers that will actually work on both XP SP3 or Win7 in the future.

I have one machine here that I guard with my life because we still have many XP systems in use for old instruments.

good luck with it!

The solution is confirmed.  It appears that any installer built in windows 7 will automatically force the requirement of Windows XP SP3 on the installer.

The executable will work fine on the Windows 2000 and Windows XP below SP3, however, the installer will not proceed.

The solution for my situation (as I have stated, I cannot upgrade all the sytems in use currently) was to attempt to build my installers using virtual machine XP mode in windows 7.

After installing XP mode, and then installing Labview 2009 with all the necessary items, I can not successfully build my installers on XP mode and they work great on everything.

Just wanted to let everyone know for future searchers of this issue.

Forgive me if this is not the place to ask.  I have never used virtual machine before (yet) and want to learn how to do it.

Any tips links or clues as to how to setup a virtual XP machine in Windows 7?

And also is it foolproof with LabVIEW?

Check here:

You need at least Windows 7 Pro.

LabVIEW is working on such a machine.
