So yes, this works, but is still very fragile, because the cluster indicator would need to be recreated whenever the control names change. Scales better, but not something I would actually use.

I'm with you on that.  I'd much rather have my plot names be based on data in a wire.  You can then name the plots anything you want, based on any rules you want, at any time you want.
