I have worked out that I can use the Menu VI's and delete menu bar Items and put them back later. This works but the items don't go grey until I click on them and when I put them back they remain greyed out.
I have worked out that I can hide the menu bar and unhide it, but that caused the whole screen to flash momentarily, it doesn't look good.
