How do I convert 3.0 VI to 7.1 VI?

I am updating an old system that ran on a Windows 3.1 machine using Labview 3.0.  I'd like to be able to use this VI on a modern version of Labview.  I've tried to open it using Labview 7.1 but it could not do the conversion.  Can I use an intermediate version as a bridge or are the differences too great between versions?  If I can convert up does anyone know which versions I would need to find?  I'm at a university so I may be able to find older versions out there.

This explains that you need a conversion kit. The conversion kit is essentially LabVIEW 4.0.
