theoretically yes, practically no.  Myself and Ben have had a prolonged benchmarking spree here trying to demonstrate that the inplaceness with complex clusters is unpredictable in a lot of cases.  It's kind of hard to predict when the inplaceness works as expected.

Seems this hasn't been fixed in LV 8.5 either, but they're going to update the help on inplaceness.  Right up there with "It's not a bug, it's a feature".
