High speed Digital Output solution?

Would it be possible to generate a serial interface with a maximum frequency
of 6.5 MHz with the I/O lines of a 6533 DIO-32HS? I have to send short
bursts of data (2k) to a serial device and I have to program the protocol
myself.

Yes, the 653x family of digital boards can achieve rates up to 20 MHz, depending on your system, which board you use, and the operation you set up. I would recommend the PCI-6534, which offers on-board memory to make sure that the PCI bus bandwidth limitations don't affect the transfer speeds. This board has been benchmarked at 20 MHz.

This family of digital boards has functionality for pattern generation, handshaking, change detection, and more. You can program your own serial protocol, and perhaps use some of the shipping examples as a guide.

You can find more information about the benchmarks, the operations of the board, and how it is programmed in the 653x User Manual. It is available at the http://www.ni.com/manuals pages.
