Help using multiplexer.

I am a LabVIEW rookie using version 6.1. I have obtained a PCI-1200 DAQ board and would like to use it to collect 16 analog input signals. I currently have a 16 channel multiplexer and would like to use this to obtain my signals, and send them to the DAQ via a single analog input. My thought is that I have to use the digital lines to control the scanning of the multiplexer. But, as I said I am new to LabVIEW and am in need of some serious help.

Thanks alot,

Tim S.

The 1200 series board has 8 single ended or 4 differential inputs as well as
24 digital I/O using the 8255 DIO chip. Once you have set up the 1200 board
the connection to the multiplexer should be pretty straight forward. To set
the address of the multiplexer you will need to use at least 4 digital lines
given that it uses a 4 bit address signal. Make sure to allow the proper
settling time before reading the anaog value and I would typically try to
average a number of scans from each point befopre moving on to the next
point. Alot will depend on the scanning rate desired. Take a look at the
attached example for how to write to a digital port. If you aren't using
the digitals for anything else you can write to the entire 8 bit port
otherwise you wi
ll need to write to individual lines. Note you can only
configure the ports in groups of 8 for input or output. If you setup a port
with a width of 16 it actually takes 2 contiguous ports. Hope this helps
you get started.
