Help/How to find GPIB?

Hi, all.

I am newhand to labview. Now I am trying to write a VI to control the x-ray
detector. To achieve this, I need to find the GPIB board inside my comuter.
I tried several "normal" methods such as adding hardware etc, but I could
not get my computer found it. If you know where the problem is and how to
get the bug away, could you please give me some idea? I must finish the VI
in three work days, but now I still could not find the GPIB board 😞 Thanks
very much for you help.

Best,
Fan

Fan,

could you give us some more details about your problem? I.e. what OS, what
kind of GPIB-Board (PnP?) With the NI-Driver comes a nice installion utility
with some troubleshooting features, have you tried this ("Add GPIB Hardware"?

You may not have to find the board at all. With Keithley boards, I never
install then (OK, I put them in the PC) but Windows never knows they are there.
I access the boards using the Keithlely driver DLL's and driver interface VI's
I wrote. This did not take 3 days (it was my first attempt at this also). If
you are new, my solution may not be of help. But I suggest you find out if the
board manufacturer has DLL's for accessing the board, and work from there. If
the board is NI or other large, well supported GPIB manufacturer then they
should have all the install software needed.

Keithley boards stink. Try a National board. They install flawlessly and
are easy to program.

I have configured both type of boards, and although I do not push any of this
hardware to the limit, both NI and Keithley GPIB hardware seem perfectly
adequate. Unfortunately the company I work for has a policy to only purchase
Keithley equipment. So whether or not the board stink is a mote point, I must
use them. Perhaps other people are in a similar situation. Let's keep an open
mind.
However I totally agree that NI equipment installs.. how to put it.... like
a dream!
