Getting started with E4438C ESG Vector Signal Generator - Keysight

Hi everyone,

I'm using the E4438C ESG Vector Signal Generator and I can't make it work...

I downloaded the drivers for this device from there I took the IVI Driver type.

I've downloaded all the documentation I could find on internet concerning the signal generator.

I've started a project and tryed to run each VI of the Driver VI Tree. I'm trying to run the Initialize.VI without having any error returned... Before runing I select my device for the VISA ressource name (my computer detect the generator) and then click on Run Arrow in top left corner.

And I have this error coming out: The ID Query failed.  This may mean that you selected the wrong instrument or your instrument did not respond.  You may also be using a model that is not officially supported by this driver.  If you are sure that you have selected the correct instrument and it is responding, try disabling the ID Query.

I've checked on documentation and ID query is *IDN? (you can check it on the joined picture)

And writing this message I think I discovered why there is problem during identification Request, it's because I ignore what is, and where to find the INSTRUMENT ID RESPONSE. This I didn't find in documentation... I've seen only what is on figure 1...

Does anybody knows how to get this ID response without requesting it to the device ? Or should I simply ignore the ID query as advised in the error message ?

Thank you for your help.

Hi raflouk,

We need a little more information to help you on that issue:

First of all, have you tried to identify this instrument trough the NI MAX?

I'm sending you some links in case you haven't tried that yet:

http://www.ni.com/getting-started/set-up-hardware/instrument-control/pt/gpib-connect

http://www.ni.com/getting-started/set-up-hardware/instrument-control/pt/serial-connect

http://www.ni.com/getting-started/set-up-hardware/instrument-control/pt/usb-connect

If none of this information help you, I would like to ask what version of LabVIEW and Windows you are using, so we may continue with this support.

Best regards,
