GPIB lockup Issue

Hi all,

I have two instruments (HP 4156C & HP E5250A) on the GPIB bus and connected to my PC via a NI USB to GPIB adapter. I run into an issue after a short while where the GPIB seems to lock up. It working as expected with both instruments working as required but then a symbol pops up in the drop-down menu (Attached pic) and the system locks up. The issue is always with the E5250A (a switch matrix) so wondering if its a master / slave setting... but could be incorrect here. The yellow symbol in beside the GPIB 22 address is the E5250A and to be honest have forgotten what this symbol means..

NI Max correctly ID's both instruments and all seems ok there. Running LV2022 Q3 32-bit

Any help greatly appreciated

B

It could be a number of things, from buggy code to bad cabling.  You might want to verify your cabling first.  Look for any loose cables, or circular paths in the cabling.  Barring that, you may want to share your code so we can help identify any issues there.

Presumably you can get it running again after resetting... something.

Do you reboot the PC?  Unplug and replug your adapter?  Unplug and replug the GPIB connections?  Restart one or both GPIB devices?

I do agree with Mancho that it could be a number of things, and narrowing it down is your best bet.

For instance, if you can make things work again by just power cycling one of the devices, then that makes it less likely to be an adapter problem.

Do you have an alternate GPIB cable to link the two devices to each other on the bus?  Or can you try putting your adapter on the other end of the GPIB link cable and see if that helps?

I think the symbol just means that the resource was actually found and not just listed.

Thanks Kyle97330,

Sawpped cables and double checked things over. For now, the system appears to be stable and ok so it could have been a bad connection.
