Failed to initialize installer. Error 110. On WinXP.

Solved!

Whenever I try to install LV6.1, or LV6.1 DSC Run-Time system, on my WinXP machine, I always get the following error:

Failed to initialize installer. Error 110.

I think it has something to do with the MSI or "Windows Installer". I tried uninstalling ALL National Instruments products but it didn't help. Any ideas?

It seems like there might be a problem with your MSI installer. On the LabVIEW 6.1 CD there should be an executable named instmsiw.exe. Run this executable from the CD. It will attempt to fix the MSI installer on your system.

Hi. Thanks. I tried this, but it actually didn't help. However, after doing a bit of searching on GoogleGroups, I found a fix by doing the following:

1. Restart WinXP in Safe Mode
2. Double-click on the installer to start the install process
3. Cancel the install process after it starts up
4. Restart windows in normal mode

Now all my setup.exe's and MSI applications work fine! Pretty strange. Just for the record: this problem was not due to a Virus-Protection program (as many people would first guess) and it prevented me from running ANY installer (MSI?) applications from a CD.

Hi,

I've seen a similar problem. Disabling the virus protection software allowed LabVIEW to install. Before was getting error 110 or an error saying "Unsafe Removal of Device", which referred to my CD-ROM
