FLEXnet and VLM

I'm getting confusing information from National about using FLEXnet with NI license files. The documentation implies that FLEXnet runs on Solaris or Windows, but we've seen FLEXnet installed on AIX at least. Is Solaris the only possibility?  Also NI support maintains that VLM cannot work when licenses for one up-to-date product (DIAdem) AND another not up-to-date product (eg LabVIEW) are on the same server; they say 2 servers would be required. Is this correct?... and why?

Hi gwl2,

When running the Volume License Manager, you must run the nilm daemon as well.  This daemon only include supports for Windows and Solaris.

As far as your other question, it appears you have multiple license files with different licenses.  Your best option would be to contact agreements who will merge those files so you can run them on one server.  Follow this Knowledge Base for instructions on contacting them.  I hope this helps!

Thank you Matt for your response. The problem is that NI says that one license file cannot be provided in this case. But is it true, and why?

Hi gwl2,

At this point, it may be best to handle this request on an individual basis.  Could you go to ni.com/ask and fill out the "Request Support" form and click the option to E-mail NI?  Make sure you put Volume License Manager as the software platform as well.  Thanks!

Also, just to clarify so there is no confusion from my previous post, NI Volume License Manager is only supported on Windows.  However, we support FLEXlm on Windows and Solaris only.
