Error message 404

Enabling all 4 services you listed has reduced the frequency of error messages appearing in the event viewer. I have only seen one set of error messages in the event viewer in the last two days. Although, that is probably because I have not been doing much development work in the last two days. I have not been able to isolate the trigger mechanism. I have attached a screen shot of the current NI services running on my development laptop.

I will continue monitoring the event viewer for "Labview Errors". I am sure I will see more of them.

Monday morning in come into the office to find my laptop running. (Not sure how/why, but that is a different problem)

Once again, I see 39 LabVIEW Error messages in the Application Event View log. I do not have any USB Daq devices attached, or any NI devices installed (it is a laptop). A simple reboot does not reproduce the error messages. Very strange...

Hey Frozen,

Thanks for the screen shot -- it was very helpful. The "Event 3299" that you're experiencing is often given when the system is being rebooted/turned on as it is the Web Service calling something that hasn't been turned on yet. Other than showing up in your event viewer, the error shouldn't disrupt your system -- are you getting other disruptions as a result of this? If you're not using web services in your application, you could try stopping the NI Web Server application as a way to stop the polling.

Let me know if this is something that's possible with your application..

This was my original request in the first post. I am not using the web services. How do I turn them off? I am using a standalone PC and I am having program conflicts (system frozzen) with an ethernet card in the system used to communicate with a motion controller. This may or may not be the problem but I would like to stop this problem to see if it prevents the other problem.

I would like to thank frozen for doing all the investigation work.

Hi Pratt,

Your welcome.

As a code develper my self, I strive to improve the code I write, and I assume others do the same. So, I take the time to help provide others with the opertunity to improve thier code.

To answer your question of "How do I turn them off?"...
Start button -> Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> services
In the services window, scroll down to "NI System Web Server" and right click.
Set "Startup type" to disable
Press the Stop button in the Service status section. You will get several warning messages about the 4 services that this service depends on this service.

NI System Web Server
The following system compnents depend on this service:

National Instruments LXI Discovery Service
National Instruments mDNS Responder Service
NI Application Web Server
NI PXI Resource Manager Service

Unfortunately, I am unable to find much detail on what the services do. Titles help a bit, but are sometimes misleading. I have seen the question asked many times, but I have never found the answer.... What are the "jobs" of the NI services? Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.

As stated eariler, I had originally disabled the Application Web Server, but still experenced the error. I know I do not use LXI or PXI, is it safe to disable them?
I use USB Daq devices with my application, so I am pretty sure my application requires the mDNS Responder Service. Do I need it? The two options I have is to use trial-and-error, or ignore the errors.

It use to be easy to submit bugs to NI. I did it several times in Labview 3 and Labview 4. Now, it seems they no longer allow user submitted bugs. I guess this will be a missed oportunity.

Hope this helps.

I'm getting the exact same message in  event log.  I mean exact, even the hex is the same.  Pattern is pretty similar, too.  A burst of quite a few of the same message in a few seconds.  On this machine, also having trouble with other NI services not starting reliably.  Problem appears to have started after our IT dept did a big upgrade on the machine.  BTW, windows search can't find a file with "ncalrpc" in the name anywhere on the disc.

It looks like I get a burst of these errors when I run NIMax.  I am also having trouble getting NI Device Loader, among others, to start.  Even if I start Device Loader manually, I still get this burst of ncalrpc errors when I start NIMax.

If I get all of the "Automatic" NI services running, by manually starting the ones that haven't automatically started, then the ncalrpc error do not occur when I start NIMax.

I don't know why the "Automatic" services are not starting automatically.  They start manually OK.  I have already set them to "Restart the Service" in Recovery for all three of the option boxes.  That isn't reliably starting them either.

Hi all,

So I did some more digging and I found that a Corrective Action Request has already been filed for this issue (multiple Event 3299 warnings occurring in Event Viewer). R&D is aware of the problem, and it is scheduled to be fixed in later versions. Basically it is an issue that happens with services or processes that are trying to run before their dependent services/processes have loaded. The boot order gets resolved in subsequent services, and the warnings stop occurring.

Customer initiated bug reports are definitely still welcomed, and contribute to most of our discovered bugs. Posting on the forums is a good way to bring these up as the forums are monitored by NI Engineers. Once we know about an issue, we can try to replicate the bug here and file a Corrective Action Request that is in line with customer concerns.

Other than showing up in the event viewer, are your applications being disrupted by these warnings? If so, it could be due to a different underlying issue which I can look into!

I have the same question.

Any update for this issue? Any work around?
