Editing VIs-- How do you operate on multiple objects?

How do you change multiple controls, indicators, or terminals?

I have a VI here where somebody laid out a front panel with about 50 controls.

The block diagram is completely unwired, but all 50 terminals are displayed as icons. I want to change them all to non-icons, but it seems insane to have to pop up on each terminal and de-select the "View As Icon" menu item.

Once I have them all selected and try to operate on them, LabVIEW de-selects them all except the one I popped up on. Grr.

Set your options to not create new objects as icons. Copy them into a new file.

My options are set that way, the VI was sent to me.

But my question is more generic....

Is there a way to edit multiple objects once you select them?

Hi bmihura,

It is currently not possible to change properties of multiple objects simultaneously and manually. One workaround is to do it programmatically, but I guess that it isn't what you were looking for.

I really like your idea, so why don't you go ahead and submit it as a Product Suggestion by using the "feedback" link on www.ni.com/contact? Then the suggestion will be evaluated directly by the LabVIEW developers for future versions of LabVIEW.

Have fun!

Since your controls were not wired, and your options set to "not icon", the easiest move should have been to select all the controls (on the front panel, not on the diagram !), then to cut and paste them back (control-X, control-V). Unfortunately it does not work so nicely when the objects are already wired since you loose the connections 😞

Yes, I would have expected a $4,000+ "software" package to allow for editing multiple objects. Oh well, I submitted the suggestion like you said.
