Does a USBTMC compliant instrument require a USBTMC driver on the host side?

My company is producing a T&M instrument with a USB device port. We would like to take advantage of the USBTMC standard. There is no USBTMC class driver from Microsoft or anyone else, as far as I can tell. We are most interested providing an easy path for Labview programmers to use our product.

Can anyone tell me, if we have a USBTMC compliant instrument, do we need to supply or otherwise locate a USBTMC driver with our product to work with Labview? Or does being USBTMC compliant simply assure that our instrument can talk to Labview using the Labview USBTMC hooks?

Thanks, John Speth

The following is from Using NI-VISA 3.0 to Control Your USB Device:

"The USB INSTR resource class is used by USB devices that conform to the USB Test and Measurement Class (USBTMC) protocol. USBTMC devices conform to a protocol that the VISA USB INSTR resource class can understand. No configuration is necessary to communicate with a USBTMC device. To communicate with a USBTMC instrument, refer to section 3. For more information about the USBTMC specification, refer to the USB Implementers Forum Web page linked below."

Hopefully this information helps. Good luck!
