What is the syntax that the target device expects...e.g. ascii(Ctrl)ascii(+)ascii(W)<carraige return> . Some device expects hex equivalents. So first look out for how the target device accepts the values from COM port.
This can be obained from the manual. If it is not available use a serial spy (HDD serial spy is best-its freeware) to determine how the hyperterminal communicates with the target device and then frame your command.
