Creating New Interfaces For Old Equipment

Could someone please tell me if LabView would be the right solution for me.
I'm thinking about changing some of the clunky, old, unreliable user
interfaces and control devices we have on some of the equipment I service.
These devices include industrial ironers/folders, sterilizers, and automated
uniform retrieval devices.

I'd like to be able to implement interfaces that utilize access control
cards with logging.

I'm new to this stuff so I'm giving myself a lot of time to learn before I
implement any changes. Does any one of some good resourses or course I
might take. Could the N.I. guys help me get started out? I see a great
potential here.

From the sound of things LV would be a great solution for what you are wanting to do. In fact from your brief description, it sounds like I have done a couple applications similar to it in the past.

The NI guys would certainly be a good place to start as they can offer you courses on how to get started with LV and the fundamentals of using the tool to develop applications.

Another resource that you have that can help you get things up and running fast is the Alliance Program (of which I am a member). This program identifies independent developers that have a proven track-record in building LV applications.

A good consultant will develop your application, document it and train you on how it works so you can maintain it yourself later.
