Could LabVIEW be used for Built-In-Tests ?

The testing group has the TestBed

(Windows PC with LabVIEW, 18 slots NI PXI chassis) to test boards

(some have embedded processor with VxWorks OS running on it),

for our VME chassis based product.

The boards also have to run several flavors of Built-In-Test:

startup-at-boot, run-time-interactive and maintenance (non-operational mode).

Is there a synergy between TestBed tests & BITs ?

Could LabVIEW be run from the batch automated script (rather than be driven via GUI interface)

on vxWorks on on-boardCPU rather than from separate PC ?

Does NI optionally supplies VME based test boards, instead of PXI chassis?

So far I found the following info:

http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=143825

LabVIEW Embedded Development Module Porting Guide

"The LabVIEW Embedded Development Module 1.0 enables you to port LabVIEW to new targets,

including non-NI hardware."

http://www.nasatech.com/Briefs/Sep01/NPO21124.html

"A development effort under way at the time of reporting the information for this article

is directed toward producing a version of the LabVIEW data-acquisition software

that would be suitable for use as flight software that could be executed

in the VxWorks real-time operating system."

NI does sell VXI based controllers and VXI devices/chassis (VXI is a VME Extension).  NI does not support LabVIEW RT on many VME-based products - for instance, if you tried to run LabVIEW RT on a VME controller like you would a Desktop PC it wouldn't necessarily be supported.
