Connect load cell to USB-6001

Hi,

I have this omega load cell part LCKD-250 that I need to connect to the NI USB-6001. Please advice on the connection. and do i need a signal amplifier?

Thanks

Yes, you need a signal amplifier as the load cell requires bridge excitation.

Once you have an amplifier, connect the output of the amplifier (typically 0-10V) to analog input of USB-6001 AI and AIGND

To be a little more specific you need to apply between 5VDC and 7VDC to the and ground to the red/black wires and connect the green and white wires to the input terminals on the 6001 device.  It seems that it comes with a 5 point calibration curve that you will have to use for fitting the voltage input to an applied force function.

The 5V is available as a "power supply" output on the 6001.  Alternately you can use the +/- 10 V ADC output and set it to 5V in your init routine.

What is not clear is what the full range voltage is for your measurement.  As the 6001 is a +/-10 V device with 14 bits or 0.0012 V per count.  It may be that this is not enough and you will need to put some gain on the output.  that being said I have used similar devices without an amplifier and they worked fine.  Just make sure that you pick the correct force range.
