Comparison between Labview DSC and other SCADA software

I would like to find out if there are any statistics available on the market share of Labview DSC in the SCADA software market. What are the strengths and weakness of Labview DSC in comparison with other SCADA software available in the market such as WonderWare and WinCC? In addition, where can I locate more information on the Process Visualisation Capabilities of Labview DSC? I am greatly impressed with the process visualisation of the manufacturing VI but was unable to locate any info on it.

I have worked with a few HMI/SCADA packages and the main plus point of DSC I see in comparison to those is its extensibility. As you know, DSC is built on top of LabVIEW -- a graphical programming language. Because of its intuitive, data-flow, graphical nature, almost anyone can "code" with LabVIEW.

DSC has all the basic features of a standard HMI/SCADA package built-in: Tag-based architecture, Historical logging, Alarms and Events, Security, etc.

If there's anything that one needs in addition to the above, they can quickly whip it up because of it being a programming environment as well. That to me is the biggest strength of DSC.

Thanks,

Khalid 🙂

Khalid,

Can you please describe the main downfalls of DSC compared to the likes of Wonderware and DeltaV interfaces....Are there anything the larger HMI/SCADA packages offer that NI doesn't? How does Lookout fit into the picture?

Thanks in advance
