Is there a way to output a barcode string from a cognex dm8600 to LabVIEW without using Telnet? I have gotten this working in the past with Telnet but would prefer to read the barcode over a regular TCP/IP connection.

Well according to this manual, page 32, "
The DataMan 8600 readers support the following industrial protocols:EtherNet/IP™PROFINETMC ProtocolModbus TCP"
There's 3 or 4 LabVIEW MODBUS libraries out there, you could look into that.
