I did my CLA exam 3 months ago and it was unsuccessful.
The main reason is it was an in class exam.
We only had a small laptop to do a multitasking exam that requires at least 2 extending screens. One for reading the exam paper and another one for coding.
The exam paper wasn't handed in, and everything had to be done in one small laptop screen.
The question is: is there any chance to do the exam remotely from home as it used to be?
The only reason I chose the in class exam is. I thought the exam paper is handed in.

I'm guessing the remote test will be worse. You'll only be able to log into a remote session, use one screen, it will be visible to the proctor, and you will need your camera turned on and can't look like you're talking. You'll also be required to give a 360 of the room you are being tested in with the camera so they can see that you don't have notes posted on the wall.

You are the first person I've heard who prefers the online exam. Usually I just hear horror stories...

Definitely heard bad stories. Proctors simply not showing up for the agreed exam or not really having any clue about what they were supposed to do. Internet connection problems that either prevented logging in initially and when it finally succeeded it was declared to be to late and impossible to start or connections that broke halfway and resulted in an automatic disqualification.
Your in person test doesn't seem like the ideal experience either, but online for sure won't be better. Not sure why they could not provide a printed version of the exam paper, that seems like an easy thing to do if their systems don't have dual monitors. I definitely prefer the paper version, just feels easier to navigate.

I'm pretty sure the limiting factor was NOT the test environment. But there's no shame in failing. Now that you know what the test is really like, you can prepare for it more precisely.
