Cannot disable Windows Explorer for LLB files

I cannot disable the option to use Windows Explorer for LLB files.

Labview Version 8.2.1
Windows XP PRO Ver 2002 SP2

When I uncheck the box, then restart the computer, the option is still enabled.
In fact, when I uncheck the box, then go back to Options / Enviroment, the box is checked again.

Reinstalling LV had no effect on this behavior.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tim

There are a few things to check:

Do you have write access to LV's ini file? I can't imagine how you would not, but it's a possibility.

After you change the setting do you shutdown LV before restarting the computer?

What is the effect if you manually put the following line into the LV ini file?

enableShellExtension=False

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestions, but nothing worked.  I recently installed on another computer and found identical behavior.  The most curious thing I see is that the check box does not remain unchecked when I return to the Options > Environment page.

I'm moving away from llb's these days anyway.

Thanks,

Tim

So what causes it? Installation problem? Setups Incorrect? Phase of the moon?

If it starts happening is there a workaround to stop it?

Hi Mike,

This is a known issue with LabVIEW 8.2.1 and there is no work around at this time.  A Corrective Action Request (CAR) has been submitted and R&D is investigating the issue.

So the big question is that I have V8.2.1 installed right now on my laptop and am not seeing the problem. The people I'm contracting with are wanting to upgrade a bunch of systems. Was I just lucky or are there situations that trigger the problem? Also will this be in a free bug fix, or will we have to pay to get this bug fixed?

Very nice, Mike. You're the ninth person to cross the 2000 posts limit. I started a well deserved congratulations thread in the BreakPoint (I link to it since you never post there, so I wasn't sure you know about it).

Hi Mike,

I have tested the selection on a couple of machines here and was able to reproduce the same problem that Tim was encountering.  There is no documentation on a trigger for this behavior.

Did you restart your computer and find that the option was still unchecked?  We may just consider you lucky!

I do not have specific information for a fix, but the issue has been reported to R&D for further investigation.
