Can you set the Pin Code using Labview Bluetooth vi's?

First let me explain that I do NOT have a bluetooth enabled pc at the moment but I am going to have one soon and I'm looking to answer some questions before this happens ... Can you set the bluetooth PinCode on a bluetooth enabled pc from within labview or is this something that would have to be set outside labview?  Also can you create a routine to run a 'discover' mode and list all the bluetooth devices it finds?
Thanks in advance.

If anyone has worked with Labview bluetooth VIs and knows of thier limitations - passing this information on to me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Greycat,
stated that I'm still learning on that, currently I don't see any way to programmatically set the PIN code (LabVIEW 7.1). On my pc, whenever a connection is going to be set, the BT driver pops up a dialog window where you should type the PIN. The BT LabVIEW functions don't work on this pc, though, because they need a device using the Microsoft driver for XP SP2 (my BT-USB dongle has WIDCOMM drivers).
As per the second question, I did it a working discover-list routine on my PDA (IPAQ with Pocket PC 2003). Supposedly this routine would also work on a pc, with the right drivers installed (somewhat surprisingly, on PDA you need to have WIDCOMM drivers, also provided with LV PDA Module if not already installed).

Thanks pincpanter ... these are the things I was afraid of .... overall what is your impression of the bluetooth implementation in Labview?  I guess I'll find out more when I start to use it more ... thanks again for the response.

One more quick question ... what version of Labview are you using?

I'm using LV 7.1.
I found BT functions very basic but effective for my simple task. I was able to setup a communication channel with my instrument in a short time.
I'm a little bit worried about the driver requirements. I really don't like such lack of standards.

One would think that Labview would be able to interface to the OS and find Bluetooth device that way - no matter what driver it uses.  But then again - it will be these things that will come to light when I start working with it a little more ... thanks for the insight ... we'll talk again soon I'm sure.  If one of the Labview Engineers would like to chime in on this to perhaps give us some more insight into how Labview works with Bluetooth drivers and hardware that would be appreciated ... I'm using Labview 8.0 ... I wonder if it has some better implementation of the bluetooth vi's then 7.1 ....

Hello,

Chiming in here... although I have never used them, it appears the bluetooth API in 7.1 and 8.0 are the same (there is a one to one correspondence with the palettes).  If it truly makes sense to provide the capability you are suggesting, you should definitely file a product suggestion on this - just click Contact NI in the upper right of ni.com, and then the word feedback in the bottom left of the contact page!

Thanks, and sorry that capability isn't there for you!

CORRECTION... replace the words "upper right" with "upper left" in the previous post 😉
