Can't get LabView 8.2 working on Leopard

I had LabView working fine on my computer under MacOS 10.4 Tiger, but I can't get the mass compile to finish now that I'm running Leopard. The initial install worked fine, and it will start the mass compile, but it always "quits unexpectedly" partway through. Because of the nature of the failure, I can't tell if it's failing at the same point each time, or if it's just random.

Hi Athaler!

According to this link, Leopard was released during the development of LabVIEW 8.5 and if you are working with a version prior (8.2) you can have issues.

There is a link to send a support email to NI, maybe you can be more specific as if you are getting an error code or maybe give more information about this.

NI claims that LabView 8.2 is "fully supported on Mac OS 10.5". I don't have 8.5, but I suppose I can see if my department bought it. I can't really give any more info, since I'm not actually getting an error code. I was really just hoping that there would be a known workaround of some kind.

Hi Athaler,

Though you are using LabVIEW 8.2, it may be useful to know that your issue is very similar to one of LabVIEW 8.5 Known Issues.

The known issue ID and description: 4EBC1FGQ - Mass Compiling on an Intel Mac running Leopard may cause LabVIEW to crash

Currently, a workaround for this issue is not available.

This unexpected quit issue for Intel Mac seems to be solved in 8.5.1. Is there any patch will address this issue for 8.2?

LabVIEW 8.5.1 Bug Fixes indicates that the bug has been fixed in LV 8.5.1

Yes, I know it is fixed in 8.5.1 but the users of 8.2 are left in th dirt... Is it a strategy to push users upgrading their LabVIEW? 😛

Thank you for your feedback,
This problem was an unintentional bug found in LV 8.2.1.
Softwares often have inevitable bugs in them which are slowly discovered by users.
Once found, R&D queues up these fixes and try their best to implement them in the software.
It's though users that help make all software innovative and better. And we really appreciate your feedbacks.
