Can someone provide a small sub panel example

Can someone provide a small sub panel example that recieves a number from the Top vi does some minor math in the sub panel vi and returns the answer to teh Top vi?

I ask because I am not having much luck on finding out how to do this type of operation.

why can´t you do this operation in a normal sub vi? See the attached (fast and short) example please.

I wanted to make a "Plug In" type architecure so I can make future VIs that will all accept the same inputs from the top VI (usually will be an array of numbers from a csv file) but perform different math functions.

The sub panel did not seem to be updating the result in the example.
