Cable/DSL Router

I am trying to check each port on a Cable/DSL Router with 8-port switch.
Each
port is connected to an instrument. My job is to make sure that each
instrument
is connected to the Cable/DSL Router and is working properly.

Hi Rayhan,

to check the way from the router to you instruments i think a solution can be to create a connection from outside of your networt to the router, and try to connect to the instruments. If they reply a tcp/ip connection for example then the connection is ok.

Your question is not clear. An unmanaged switch as typically built into consumer devices does not care what device is plugged into which port.

All you need to do is contact the IP address of each device. What kind of services are running on the intruments? Do the intruments have a nameserver entry?

• Are you trying to connect from the WAN side or from the LAN side?
• Is the router doing NAT? If so, are you forwarding any ports?
