CLD exam

Hi there folks,

I just went through all the sample exams on NI's website and will be going for my exam this week.
I wanted to know from folks who did their exam recently within the last 6 months, if the exam being
given is easier or harder than the sample exams.

Thanks in advance.

Haven't looked at the exams lately, but will say that the biggest thing is to be very familiar with the coding environment, as the most numerous reason associates of mine have been unsuccessful was running out of time due in part to not being familiar with the version at the test site's interface. It isn't as bad a situation with 8.x, as the interface hasn't changed much, but if you are most familiar with 7.X, for instance, you may spend too much time looking through the pallettes.

I started using LabVIEW 8 months ago, so I have been using LabVIEW 8.0 and on.
Hence, environment wise I think I should be ok.

They are probably all the same difficulty level.  In my opinion, they are too long.  To sit for 4 hours without a break, to do a job that should require 8 hours is gruesome.  You don't have much time to think about strategy, and you don't have any time to experiment with different methods.  Two thirds of your grade are based on style and documentation.  So don't sweat it if your code is not 100% functional.  Just be sure to document, put comments, add tip strips and documentation for each front panel object, document all subvi's, use a state machine, don't bend the wires, use data flow execution, label long wires, ...........  This is just too much.  Then it takes 3 weeks to grade.  I'm still waiting to hear if I passed and I took it on Dec 6.

I'm getting ready to make the jump to "Certified" myself.  I still need to do the CLAD first.  But I've been using LabVIEW for almost 5 years now and the boss wants me to move quickly onto the CLD.

Looks like '08 is going to be my LabVIEW year.

(maybe I'll even make it to NI Week)

Where can I find more sample CLD exams or similar type besides the 3 available on NI's website?

ThanX

The 3 examples on the NI website are all that presently exist.  They cannot let any of the current exams out of course.  As the current exams become retired, they will be posted on the website as examples for future CLD takers.

I took the exam recently.  The one thing I noticed about the written part of the exam was that it did not have much to do with the training materials.  I could answer the questions I did mostly because I have been using LabVIEW for a long time now.

Also, it does not make me happy that I have to recertify within 2 years.  LabVIEW does not really change that much within 2 years.

Are you talking about the CLAD?  The CLD has no questions and answers.  Just coding.

I agree about having to recertify every 2 years.  I think every 5 years would be plenty.  From what I have heard, the recertification for CLD may be questions and answers only.  Maybe this is what you are refering to.  Does anyone know about recertification for CLD?
