BSOD Crash from nipalk.sys

Tonight I got 3 consecutive BSOD crashes on boot attributed to nipalk.sys.  On the 4th try the computer booted.  I checked the running processes and nipalk was not listed but there are 3 instances of nipalsm.  I have Labview 8.5.1 on this computer but I haven't run Labview on this computer for more than a year.  I use my other laptop almost exclusively for Labview.  Why would nipalk suddenly start causing BSOD crashes when there has be no Labview activity in a long time?

OK, thanks.  I am not running any hardware and am not even running Labview, so that thread is of limited use.  However, it does suggest that upgrading may resolve the problem.  I removed Labview from the computer and booted smoothly afterwards.  I will try again with the latest version of Labview.  If that doesn't work, I will contact NI directly.
