AutoCAD in LabVIEW

Hello all,

I have an electron storage ring which I need to bakeout to 250 degrees Celsius. I have written a user interface to control all of my heaters and thermocouples. Now I need to make a schematic of the ring for a user to be able to easily click on a part of the ring and read/write to that section. This is essential because we need to keep a relatively low temperature differential between different zones of the ring. Any ideas on how to link an AutoCAD drawing of the ring to a control system on my front panel with controls?

Cheers,

KC

KC,

Could you mock up what you are imagining in PowerPoint or paint?  From there we could perhaps suggest how to create it in LabVIEW.

You can do a lot by importing custom images and getting creative with transparent areas of elements.  At a bare minimum you could copy and paste an image of the ring onto your front panel and place the controls next to the various segments.

It may be possible to (at the very least) display the ring on the front panel using a 3D picture control. If you can export your Autocad model to an ASCII STL file, you can convert and display it.

For a 2D drawing, you could create custom booleans and make the images transparent. If you place those over the ring/picture control in specific locations, that would allow you to use events based on what part of the ring the user clicks on (i.e. what transparent control the user clicks).
