Akai APC20 with labview?

I have an Akai APC20 that i would like to be able to use to control our robot for the 2013 FRC season, but I can't get the thing to render any axis movements or button pushes in the .vi I've built (attached).

I think the APC might output a midi signal rather than a joystick/button-push signal, if that is so, how do I get labview to recognize that and use it to control motors, solenoids, etc?
