A question about web server

Hi, I have successfully setup a web server for a program. I browsed the website using IE with another pc but failed to see the program interface. After I installed "labview run-time engine", everything is fine.
Does this mean I need to install "labview run-time engine" to every client machine? Thanks.

The short answer is 'Yes'.

The longer answer. The Runtime engine is actually what runs the application. The web page that gets created to view in the browser uses ActiveX (I think) to link that document to your application, which still needs either LabVIEW or the the runtime engine if you've built it into an executable to run.

That makes sense. So if I want others to browse my program, I also need to tell them to download "run-time engine" (need to regist in NI website first, hum...).

You could also have them get the engine from NIs FTP site without having to register.

All the Windows versions can be found at ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/labview/runtime/windows/ . Just make sure and give them the correct link to the version of LabVIEW the applicaiton is built in.

Hi, Ed, one more question about the web server: it seems to me that only one client can browse the server at one time. Is there any way to let multi-viewer to login the server at the same time? Thanks.

You are correct. By default, only one person log onto the remote web server at a time. This is a licensing issue due to the ActiveX interface use to embed the VI in the browser. LabVIEW comes with one license to allow one person at a time.

If you need more than that, additional licenses can be purchased from NI and installed on the web server machine.
