256 Color Application Icon

How can I use my nice 256-color icon for my LabVIEW 7.1 and LabVIEW 8.2 applications?  If the VIs support 256 icons, why doesn't the application builder? 

It seems like the app builder for both versions only support 16-color icons, which seems quite silly these days.  I've done a bit of searching around here, and haven't been able to find a suitable answer.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LabVIEW itself does not support this (although that will change at some point), but you can change the icon of the executable after you built it using programs like ResHack. If you want to have a single icon for all your applications, you can change the icon of the executable stub which LabVIEW uses. There was a thread about doing this in the LAVA forums.
