using labview with Thermo Orion pH Meter

I need help with communicating with Thermo Orion's 520A pH Meter.
I've attempted to use both hyperterminal and labview to communicate with the meter.
With hyperterminal a connection was established but a session was not started.

With labview I obtained the following error message:
Error -1073807343 occurred at Property Node (arg 1) in VISA Configure Serial Port (Instr).vi->communicationVI.vi

Possible reason(s):

VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF0011) Insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system.

Any help, anyone?
-Thanks, workhead9

Are you using one of the shipping examples? Whether you use one of those a=or something that you wrote, there is a VISA Resource Name control. On the right side of that is a little arrow. Click on that to get a list of valid resource names. If you used one of the shipping examples, the default is Com1 so maybe you don't have com1 in your system. If you created your own VI, then you'll get that error is the resource name is blank.

I don't understand your comment about Hyperterminal. What do you mean a session was not started? Were you able to use Hyperterminal to talk to the instrument?

I am working with the Orion 4-star 812 meter and I used the basic serial read and write example to communicate with it.  Dennis edited the VI so that it only read pH and conductivity, and deemed it better - which it is.

Also, I called Thermo and they sent me the programming manual which doesn't come with the regualr literature.
