serial ports not recognized

Installed LabView Signal Express LE for trials.  It won't recognize my computer serial ports (usb/rs485 converter and an ethernet bridge to serial).  Both ports are available in Device Mgr & from other software.  I looked in the knowledge base & and saw references to VISAconf.ini, but I can't find that file either.  The MAX system tree does not have a "devices" listing.  I'm a "newbie" on labview, but I have done a lot serial com programming in other software environments.
Thanks for your help.

In MAX, expand the software listing and see if NI-VISA is listed. If it's not, you can download the latest version from http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/348/lang/en

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes, NI-VISA is listed in MAX, under software.  It contains visa32.dll.  I just downloaded this yesterday...should be latest version.

I'm not sure what could be wrong. The fact that you have no devices listing is not something I have seen. It's possible that the USB-485 converter and the ethernet bridge you are using are not compatible with VISA. There have been some posts on what converters do and don't work. If you can provide the make and model, maybe someone here has experience with them.
