scan for instruments, PCI-GPIB, MAX does not respond and crashes

I am using a PCI-GPIB card to connect to a Tek TDS6124C. My PC is running WINXP. I have installed the version2.5 of the NI488225.exe.
I am able to see in the PCI-GPIB device in the device Manager-->National Instruments GPIB Interfaces.
I ran the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Utility and both Software(NI-488.2) and GPIB0(PCI-GPIB) passes.
However, when I ran the scan for Instruments, the Measurements and Automation Explorer does not respond and eventually crashes. I have also test out both different Tek and Agilent scope.

After re-starting the Application and running Interactive Control, ran ibfind(gpib0), and run ibwrt "*IDN?", interactive control pauses for a long time (1min++)before coming back with EAB0.

I've tried with ibdev as well, but the error when I run "*IDN?" I get EADR.

It seems like the PCI-GPIB card is recognized by the PC, but whenever I start communication nothing seems to work. I'd like to mentioned the PCI-GPIB card hasn't been used for awhile (5++ years). Is there anyway I can further test communication?

Hi eklim,

It does sound like your computer is successfully detecting the GPIB device.  In terms of the error you are receiving, I would recommend taking a look at the KnowledgeBase article on Common GPIB Error Codes.

I have looked into some of the commands compatible with your device, and the *IDN? query should work.  Since you are receiving errors with this, as well as with IBIC, it does lead me to believe that the card may not be working properly.  You may want to try swapping out the cable to see if it changes anything, as well as try some of the suggestions in the KnowledgeBase.

Regards,

Lauren
