remotely controlling a signal source (RS SMB 100A) using GPIB.

I am trying to control a signal source (RS SMB 100A) using GPIB. To start with I am trying to writes small VI just to see if it allows me set various parameters (Amplitude, frequency, modulation etc). I am getting the following error:'Error 1073807194 occurred at RSSMB Initialize.vi'. Possible reason(s):(Hex 0xBFFF00A6) The connection for the given session has been lost. Can I have some help please?

Thanks

Maybe you can post one of the small vi's?

And we can see if you use visa or gpib itself.

Thanks Albert. I think it was something silly and I pretty much rebooted the computer and it worked. I would however, like to ask a slightly different question. I am currently having a GPIB connection between the signal source (RSSMB100A) and the computer (GPIB to USB). I actually wanted to do it through USB (there is a USB type B on the back of the instrument) but the connection was never recognised by the computer at all! Do you think I should have done something else apart from just connecting  in the first place?

I do have VISA library installed which I think should allow all types of physical connections (LAN, USB, GPIB).

You should install the USB driver from the vendor. That's assuming that the vendor has a driver for USBTMC.

Or the intrument vendor should open up all the details of this connection and you would have to experiment with all nitty gritty details of the bus.

I agree with Dennis, try to get the usb driver from the supplier.
