keithely 6487 not recognizing

hi,

I have a keithley 6487 picoammeter. I used one of the vi from the labview drivers of keithley instrument but the vi could not connect to the keithley instrument. The problem is that for some reason the I/O handle is not getting highleted so that we can select which GPIB instruments to take measurements from.

there are other vi in the driver in which if i manually change the address of the GPIB instrument it works fine but in some VI we can not insert the address manually. (please see the attached picture)

Could anyone please help me.

thanks in advance

I dont know this paricular driver and the VIs you are talking about but commonly there are a lot of VIs which cannot run individually. That means you first have to open a session to the device (referencing it by address or alis name). You will get a device handle than that can be passed to following subvis. Since the handle is created dynamically by the open vi, you cannot use the handle inputs on a subvi frontpanel manually. Wire the handle from outside of the VI using the connector pane.

Thanks for your response but i am still pretty confused. SO i will try to make my problem more clear.

I am posting the vi and the block diagram (pic2 and pic2_block) of the same VI but on computer A. Here on computer A it works just fine. What I mean is, it recognizes the address of the GPIB instruments correctly and hence can take measurements.

But the same VI is not able to recognize the addresses of any GPIB instruments on computer B. In the working VI on computer A we could click the pointer on the side and select which GPIB instruments we should connect to. But on computer B we just can not click the pointer on the side because that I/O button is not highlighted.

But on computer B if there is an option to put the GPIB address manually as shown in pic3 (this is different VI), then the VI connects to the instrument.

So I was just wondering is it because I might be missing some drivers, VISA`s or something like that on computer B?

Is there a way so that I can manually change the address of GPIB instruments from pic2 just like pic3??

All the pictures are in pics folder.
