instrument control problem

Dear all,

Today I have some problem with instrument control.

Here is the details: Software: LabVIEW7.1,
Hardware:  a PC with a NI-daq card and  a GPIB card, JDSU SWS 2000.

I want to control the JDSU SWS 2000 via GPIB address, and the default GPIB address is 07, but in the LabVIEW I can't find the 07 address. Also I try to use MAX to find the device, but the device can't find it.

By the way, I can use the NI-DAQ to control the instrument.

So anyone can give me some help on this, with great thanks.

First, no you cannot use NI-DAQ to control a GPIB instrument.

Is your GPIB board one from NI? If it is, can you connect a different GPIB instrument and detect that one? Did the GPIB controller pass all of the tests when you installed the driver and set it up? Do you have a different GPIB cable that you could try?

First of all, thanks for your reply.

I connect my instrumnet with GPIB card with GPIB cable. And I have connect with other instrument(a power supply),it can works. But i am puzzled with why SWS testing system can't work.

If you can detect another instrument, then there wouldn't seem to be a problem with either the GPIB board, the driver, or the cables. Until you can detect the instrument in MAX, you won't be able to use it. So, make sure that the address is what you think it is and that it's unique. Also, with some instruments, you actually have to enable GPIB support with one of the instrument's menus. In fact, with couple of different JDSU instruments that I use, this is the case. I have not been impressed with the JDSU web site. Just like the instruments I use, I cannot find a programming manual for yours so I cannot check it.
