how to control a lantronix XPORT embdded server through Labview

Hello All,

I am trying to communicate with a Lantronix XPort. ( www.lantronix.com). It is serial to ethernet converter, and all i wanted to do was use the TCP-active.vi ( available in the Labview examples) to communicate with the device and then read the serial data using basic serial read and write.vi ( available in the labview examples). I changed the machine name to the IP address I have the Lantronix on, and I changed the port number to 80 which is the HTTP port number. I get an error message and nothing comes on the serial receive box.

Lantronix XPORT can be configured using their own software, and this is how I was able to configure the serial port settings on the XPORT. the same serial port settings were duplicated on the Labview VI.

Am I overlooking something ??

What's the best way to control and monitor these ethernet to serial converter devices. Seemed like an easy way to convert all serial devices to ethernet.

Thank you all.

Sincerely,

Sandeep

Hi Sandeep,

What error message are you getting?  Also, do you have NI-VISA installed?  You will need it to run that example.  If you do have it installed, what version do you have.  This can be found by opening Measurement & Automation Explorer (from the start menu in Windows) and browsing to the "Software" folder on the left side in the Configuration tree.  Expand this folder and click on NI-VISA and the version number should show up on the right side of the screen.  If you do not see NI-VISA here, please download from the download page here.

Please answer these and l can look into the issue further for you!  Have a great day!

Hi Chris,

I actually got the XPORT to talk with the examples provided by NI.  I was actually using the wrong port number.

Thanks though,

Sandeep

Hi Sandeep, could you share the vi that you created that communicates with XPORT. I have looked everywhere for an example vi but you are the only one I have seen that has suscessfully connected to the XPORT, so if you share it with me I would be forever great full.

Thanks Dan

Hi Dan,

Given the fact that this forum has not been posted on in over 6 years, it is doubtful that Sandeep and the other participants will be monitoring this post. I recommend creating a new forum thread to pursue the answers to your questions. Hopefully, using another thread, we will be able to get down to the bottom of the issues being faced.
