gpib device communications

Hello,

I'm new to the GPIB world and I have one basic question. How do you know what to send to each device to control a certain functanlity of the devices? For instance on a spectrum analzyer I have, I have it setup using Labview 8.0 and VISA to set the VB (Video Bandwidth) to 10 KHZ, how do I know what command I should send to change the reference level to 10dBm? This is a general question and I just can't find any manufacturer documentation on the subject. So any help on where to start looking would be appreciated.

All of the commands are instrument specific and are provided by the vendor in one of their manuals. Sometimes they have one large manual that explains how to use it manually and programatically. Sometimes they provide a separate programming manual. If you can't find the information, you need to ask the vendor.
