Did you mean:

cannot get VISA resource name on pull down menu

I'm using Labview 8.2 version and trying to control Agilent N5747A with GPIB Agilent 82357B.
I did what I should do from NI website and I can see my instrument in MAX. And also I can communicate in Labview.
But the thing is after rebooting my computer I can still see N5747A in MAX and it works fine in VISA test panel. Also in Labview, IO instrument assistant works fine.
However I cannot see the instrument's address in the VISA resource name on pull down menu anymore. There's nothing. Previously, when the instrument worked fine, I could choose instrument's address from pulldown menu.
So, I typed instrument's address manually and ran the "Initializing 5747A" but the program just hanged there and never stoped. I tried to debug it hanged on VISA open, I couldn't see any VISA resource name on input. It just grayed out. So I guess somehow VISA in Labview cannot get or recognize instrument's resource name.

So I tried to fix VISA problem from uninstalling all the program from NI including Labview and VISA(version 4.1) and reinstalled the whole thing. After that it worked fine.

But after next morning, I turn on my computer problem occurred again. I don't know what to do.
I cannot do the uninstalling and reinstalling thing again.

I think there should be a solution.
Can you tell me what's wrong with it?

Thanks,

Soo.

Hi Soo,

Am I correct to understand that you have the Agilent IO Libraries and NI-VISA on your computer to configure/interact with the Agilent GPIB board?  Did you install any new software or make some other change to your system when this behavior began occuring?  Do you have HP-VISA on your machine or some other VISA?  It shouldn't be required for this set-up, so I would recommend only having NI-VISA installed in this instance.  Also, you can try a repair, rather than uninstalling and reinstalling all of VISA.  A complete uninstall/reinstall of LabVIEW is probably not necessary.  Let me know if this helps!

Thanks Anna.
I fixed this by uninstall and reinstall NI VISA.
