Why rs232 always timeout

Now i am using newport motorized stages (smc100pp).And i encounter a problem that the software always tells me rs232 is timeout with labview even though i have set the port configuration according to the company's instruction. What is the problem?

You get a timeout when you want read characters from the port, but your device isn't sending anymore.

Or you have choosen hardware protocol, but your cable doesn't support it, or ...
