Why do I receive a "Unable to read NI-488.2M software configuration information" when running UPDATDOS.EXE under WIN2K?

I am trying to make an old GPIB application written for DOS working on a Win2K platform. However, when I am executing the UPDATDOS.EXE program to load the configuration from Windows registry into GPIB-NT.COM, I recieve an error message telling me, that the program is "unable to read the NI-488.2M software configuration information from the Windows NT registry." I have checked my setup in the Windows control panel and it appears to be OK.

Unfortunately, the updatedos utility does not work in Windows2000. Its use is primarily to update the gpib-nt.com driver to reflect the changes in your device templates. If you leave these as default (DEV!, DEV2, ...) you should have no proplem running DOS applications from 2000 without using the updatedos utility.

The new 2.2 version drivers have a working updatdos i.e. it works under 2000, I asked the same question as you in the forum recently and was told this and then tried it and it works. Its unfortunate I'm replying to a question a year out of date 🙂 but might help anyone else who searches for a question like yours
