One correction, It is the Prolific Technology Pl-2305 IEEE-1284 controller, that is a parallel port controller.
(Website was down yesterday when I was looking up the number, and obviously my memory was wrong).
Datasheet: http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=27
Mfr note: "For Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Microsoft includes USB Printing Class inbox driver."
I asked the mfr to write a suitable driver, hopefully with full LPT simulation support, and they responded that they wanted to know how big the market was. (just me, of course)
To verify functionality for my project, I have LEDs connected to each of the eight outputs. If I can write data to control the LEDs I will have the functionality I need for my project.

So, have you installed the driver that makes it appear as a printer port and have you been able to recognize it in MAX as such? A normal VISA Write can be used without creating a RAW driver.

No. I have not written a driver. If the mfr won't write a driver for their product, it seems like a huge investment in time for one application considering at present I don't know how to write a driver. I have been trying to use the microsoft supplied generic driver, but as discussed above, I am getting hardware/state errors I haven't solved.

I think he should've, otherwise he cannot see that error of the "Invalid In Pipe Status" value. I see the same error from a NI Driver Wizard-generated driver for my USB port (though I'm not using the same device as him), so I cannot query the port.

Hi All,
I am also suffering with this problem.
I was to use NI USB 8451 to load FW to the board, as I always did everyday. It failed and I checked the status on NI MAX, it gaves the same error.
Besides, it seems that this NI Hardware module doesn't work anymore.
What is the problem for that?
Is there possible method to at least reset the NI module?

Hi lisi5678,
This issue with your NI USB-8451 would be best answered in our Industrial Communications forum. Additionally, this post is from 2012 so starting a new post would attract more attention from our community who can help answer your question.
